Festivus maximus

Ahhh what a weekend. Eating, drinking and being merry. Festivus maximus.

Saturday morning, we went to a birthday party of the little girl of a good friend. Ice cream, cake, dancing. You know it's time to leave when the noise hits a certain pitch. You know that pitch of a kid's party that's about to go one step too far. When the kids have been filled with sugar, their fists are full of prizes and their eyes wild with fun.

The party hit that pitch, so we threw the kids in the car and moved to party #2. It was the kids' godfather's birthday, so we dropped in at the pub. A table outside where the sugar-fuelled kids could destruct and destroy. I glanced at the coasters and found the pub had pole dancers and lingerie waitresses on Fridays. On Saturdays the only boobs that came out were feeding babies. Some of the patrons that came in and saw my kids destroying the joint obviously wished it was Friday.

We headed home. The sun was out. We cooked a BBQ and the kids ate on a rug on the grass. D cried, being witching hour and all. We cracked a bottle of Veuve. I danced round the backyard with D strapped to my chest in the Baby Bjorn not daring to stop or else he'd start wailing. I sipped Champagne and looked at Skip and the kids in the evening light, laughing. A little photograph taken in my memory. A good time.

The next day we hit the shops and started our Christmas shopping. Better late than never. I didn't get much, but it felt successful.

When the kids started whinging we then headed to my Mum's for a Christmas lunch as she won't be here on the day. We ate, drank and chatted as the dark clouds rolled in and the rain came down. D slept, the girls played with (and taunted) their cousins. We ate some more. The perfect way to spend a rainy Sunday.

Yep, the party season is in full swing.

Are you in party mode?

  1. Sounds like an amazing weekend. I can totally see you dancing around the backyard D strapped to your chest....

  2. Sounds like a cracker! We have TWO Christmas's this weekend with my Mum and then my Dad. It's certainly crazy enough to be looking like Christmas.

  3. "Festivus maximus" - awesome!

I go nuts this time of year. I'm probably unbearable to my nearest and dearest, but I just can't help myself. NUTS I tell you. x

  4. Sounds like a fantastic weekend. It is crazy how busy this time of year gets, but at the same time I love all the social activities etc

  5. Sounds like a great day - very busy but that is how it should be at this time of the year!

  6. Oh lovely weekend Corinne, you describe it beautifully. In some ways it mirrors our weekend too. We're definitely in party mode after the one just gone. We also had that crazed birthday party experience on Saturday... a bunch of 4-6 year old boys tearing around, hyped up on sugar and light sabres and water guns... yeah, great mix! ;o)
Love your 'photograph in your memory' comment... I did exactly the same on Sunday arvo. Pub lunch with dear friends, rain came tumbling down, then as it cleared we took the 4 kids out to play on the corso by the beach. Magic memories and I didn't take one photo... rare for me. But I SO get what you mean about that. Very pleased you enjoyed your weekend, with a few bubbles too :o) xo

  7. Tis the season to be jolly...!
    Sounds like a brilliant whirlwind.
I love the image of you dancing little D around.

Thank you so much for your comments! I'm always thrilled to hear from you.
