Food, fuel, fervor

I've reached a point where I want to eat better, be fitter, feel fab and look good. It's 12 weeks since I had D, I've managed to lose all the weight I put on while pregnant with him (bar 1kg) though I wanted to trim down before I had him so there's still some flab to go.  There's also the fact that while I want to lose a further 5-10kg, my body has had three children so is not the same shape it once was (and will never be). My blood pressure has gone back to normal, thank goodness. I'm now at the cross roads of how to embark on this. Make it something long-lasting, not just a quick fix.

To be honest it's all a bit confusing. I'm a strong believer in moderation. I don't believe in cutting something totally out of my diet, for me it doesn't work. There's a lot around on the internet and the media about cutting out sugar, carbs. Eating this and that. Smoothies, protein. All sorts of diets. I'm a sceptic about all of this, but I'm open to learn. I'm generally eat good, unprocessed foods. Exercise. A bit of what you fancy now and again.

My goals:

* To be healthy. To make sure my blood pressure stays down. Having extremely high blood pressure is pretty bloody scary. I want to hang around for a long time to come.

* To feel good. Having three kids, I want to have lots of energy. I want to be able to keep up with them. I want to inspire them.

* To look better.

Next step? How to achieve this...

  1. I know so many of us who are determined to make permanent changes to our lives in the way of our health and fitness and I believe it has a lot to do with our children. Having children has completeley refocused me and I really feel different when it comes to my health now. You can do this, you can make these changes and you will have lots of us rallying around who are on the same journey too!

  2. Good for you! It can be such a challenge but I really agree with you on the moderation. Being healthy and active while allowing yourself a treat every now and then has got to be the best way to do it!

  3. Awesome goals Corinne, much like my own ongoing goals around health and fitness. I am a no dieter. Never have, hopefully never will. I do believe in moderation and plenty of exercise... though I often struggle to keep up with the latter :o/
    For me, it's not about weight so much as feeling good and fitting into the clothes I want to.
    Long walks are good to start out with, not always convenient, but hopefully it will get easier as the kids get older. Look forward to following your journey :o) xo

  4. I can so relate to your post! I lost weight post baby but am slowly creeping up on the scales at present. I'm looking to feel better in myself for summer and before I (hopefully) am pregnant with number 2!
    Good luck and I look forward to reading about how things work for you! :)

  5. Love those goals Corinne! I don't see how you can't get there with such a gorgeous and realistic attitude. And I would have killed to have been back to my pre-baby weight in such a short time after any of my kids, well done!

  6. I used to walk like a bit of a goat at any opportunity I had, when the Little Guy was small. Daycare days for the Big Girl were awesome. I'd walk rain, hail, shine. I hated feeling slothy, as is easy to do when looking after smalls.

    I tried the no sugar thing, but lasted about 2 days. Life's short. Life without sugar is a sad one, I think. I'm all for moderation and not buying junky stuff in the first place. Because if it's there, I will no doubt reward myself by eating all of it in one sitting when the smalls are in bed.

    Good luck with it. You have a great, no bullshit attitude. xx
