Frivolous, fabulous frocks

All of a sudden my dismal social life is taking a turn for the better. In the next couple of months I've got a rush of weddings, engagement parties and at least three or four big race days (gotta love the autumn carnival). Which means I need to get some fab frocks organised.

Thankfully last year, I made some great purchases, thanks to a wonderful designer who works just steps away from my house. Sadly, a couple of race dresses were about the only fashions buys I made last year. I still think I new at least one or two new dresses to get through this rush (well, that's what I keep telling myself).

So, where do you go to frock up? What are your fashion secrets?

  1. The most fabulous dress I have bought recently was a hasty KMART $20 purchase minutes before my sons school function. I had to get another dress because my boobs were escaping in the frock I was wearing and it was awful.

I have never had as many compliments in my life as I have gotten from strangers in my cheapo dress. Go figure.

Think I will copy the design and make it in every colour.

  2. I've been loving Myer lately. I've managed to accumulate a dozen dresses from there over the past twelve months, all different brands, different styles and with a discount of some sort. I also love the Spencer Street DFO in Melbourne (when I can get there) and Forever New's sale rack!

  3. Isn't it great when you grab a bargain like that? I have a top from Target I bought about 5 years ago, every time I wear I get a bucket load of compliments.

  4. I love wearing dresses and need a new stash pronto. I have a strapless number that I just live in during the summer it is bright and cheerful and oh so cool - I love dresses because they are a one stop shop, none of this mixing and matching hoopla we don't have time for!!

  5. I think I know the local designer of which you speak ;). I love the dresses in there and definitely need some hot frock action for March! I'm in need of a new dress (well, not really, but any excuse will do!).

My previous favourite shops for special occasion dresses have been Yoshi Jones in Newtown and Nobue in the Strand. To date, I've worn the Nobue dress only twice ... I bought it for a wedding in October 2007 and had it altered. Needless to say, there was a good 18 or so months after that initial wear where wearing it wasn't an option, and now it fits I haven't had an occasion to rock it out, until now! So it'll be making an appearance at one March event.

Designer wise, I love Leona Edmiston's style (though I'm not that keen on the fabric she uses) and yearn for the day I can go all out and buy an Orla Kiely or Eley Kishimoto frock. One day ...

  6. Yeah, am feeling I need to journey to Newtown for a shop. Just need to do it without the kids.

The local designer is FAB, FAB, FAB. She'll do on the spot alterations too. Gorgeous fabric from Vietnam.

  8. A friend alerted me to the Victoria Secret website (yes they do clothes, not just pretty underwear) and I've found some Postage can be a little pricey so it's better to hold out until you see a few things you want.
